The language your relationship has been missing.
How Human Design gave words to everything my husband and I already knew about each other. And why it made something already good even better.
My relationship was already good. My husband and I were solid, loving, and genuinely happy together. We were not in crisis. We were not looking for a fix.
And yet, when I started going deeper into Human Design and looked at both of our charts, something shifted in a way I did not expect. Not dramatically. Not overnight. But quietly and consistently, things got easier. We got easier.
Human Design is often called the science of differentiation. The idea is simple and completely radical at the same time: we are not all built the same way. We do not process energy the same way, make decisions the same way, or move through the world the same way. And most relationship friction, if you look closely enough, is not about not loving each other. It is about two people with genuinely different wiring expecting each other to operate from the same manual.
Human Design gives you the manual. Not to fix each other. To see each other more deeply.
The layer we didn’t know we were missing.
My husband and I have been together for almost seventeen years. We genuinely grew up together. And from the beginning, people always commented on how much freedom we gave each other. How we let each other be fully themselves. It was literally the theme of our wedding speeches.
He is deep into sports. I am deep into all things spirituality. Neither of us shares the other’s passion and both of us have always genuinely appreciated it. We moved from Amsterdam to Los Angeles with two young children, navigated a big life transition, kept growing. That kind of acceptance doesn’t happen by accident. It’s a choice you keep making.
Human Design didn’t fix anything between us. It gave us a language to go even deeper together.
My husband is a Manifestor. Manifestors are here to initiate, they move in bursts of inspired action, and more than almost anything else they need to be free to do things their way. Unsolicited input, even well-meaning suggestions, lands for a Manifestor like someone grabbing the steering wheel while they’re driving.
I am a Manifesting Generator with a 5 line profile. The 5 line is called the Heretic. There is something in me that genuinely wants to help, fix, stay one step ahead. It comes from a real place. And people tend to project that role onto you too, coming to you as the problem solver before you’ve even offered.
During our big transition, when everything around us felt uncertain, that fixer impulse amplified. The move, two young children, a life being rebuilt from scratch. We were both under pressure, both carrying more than usual. I started offering suggestions before he asked, managing things that weren’t mine to manage. He was stressed in his own way. Neither of us was wrong. We were just two people in the middle of a big life change, doing our best.
If I’m honest, there was something almost funny about finding out he is just a Manifestor. Of course he is. The moment I saw it, I stopped wanting him to be any different.
When I saw it in both our charts, something landed. Not a revelation. A recognition. Like finally having the conscious language for something I had already been living.
So I stepped back. And as I came back into my own alignment, he stepped more fully into his. Not because anything big changed. Because we finally had language for something that had always been true about both of us.
Almost seventeen years of choosing each other. Human Design gave us a way to do it even more consciously.
The defined and undefined mind.
Human Design also gave language to another important dynamic between us that I had felt but never been able to name.
My husband has a defined mind. He processes information in a consistent, fixed way. He forms views and holds them. I have an open mind. I absorb perspectives from everywhere, I can genuinely see all sides, and I hold opinions loosely because I can always see the other angle.
The shadow of an open mind in a relationship with a defined mind is this: you start to feel pressure to be more certain than you are. I felt this. I would feel an opinion forming and then defend it harder than I actually meant it. Somewhere along the way I had started to equate certainty with intelligence. As if having a fixed view meant I was smarter, more credible, more worth listening to.
What I understand now is that my uncertainty is not a weakness. It is literally my design. I am not built to be fixed. I am built to be open. And when my husband asks my opinion, I can give him every angle he hasn’t considered. Not to destabilise him. To complete the picture.
We are actually the perfect team! He brings the clarity and conviction. I bring the panoramic view. Neither is better. Both are necessary.
I see it like this: change always starts with yourself. I made the shift first. As I came back into my own alignment, I became less agitated, less easily triggered. I stopped acting out when a boundary was crossed and started naming what I needed before it got to that point. That change in me changed the energy between us. Not because I fixed anything. Because I stopped waiting for the dynamic to shift and started with myself.
What happens when your auras meet: 1+1=3
In Human Design, when two people come together, they don’t just bring their individual charts. They create a third energy. A connection chart. Your aura and your partner’s aura combine to form something entirely new, with its own defined centers, its own themes, its own dynamics.
Ra Uru Hu, the founder of Human Design, put it beautifully: the moment you enter into the aura of another, something emerges that is not either of you. A third thing. Something that only exists when you are together.
My husband and I both have undefined emotional centers. Neither of us generates our own consistent emotional wave. We are both highly sensitive to the emotional field around us. We pick up what others are feeling, amplify it, and can easily mistake it for our own. When we come together, our collective chart still has an undefined emotional center. Which means we are, together, a very open emotional field. When one of us picks up an emotion from outside, the other amplifies it right back. It can escalate fast, and neither of us is the original source.
Now add two children, both with defined emotional centers, moving through genuine highs and lows as part of who they are. The emotional intensity in our house can be a lot.
There was a moment recently that I think about often. My youngest daughter, Mae, was really upset about something. Full emotional wave, as children with defined emotional centers do. And within minutes I found myself suddenly furious at my husband for not having cleaned the pumpkin outside. Not a slow build. Furious.
He looked at me and said: you don’t need to take Mae’s energy as your own.
And I stopped. And then I laughed. Because he was right. I saw it so clearly, I had absorbed her wave, amplified it inside myself, and it had landed on the pumpkin. Which was completely innocent.
That one sentence was only possible because we both had the language. We could name it instead of fighting through it.
Naming it is already half the work.
What changes in a session
The emotional center dynamic is one of the most common things I explore in relationship sessions. When one partner has a defined emotional center and the other does not, the defined partner moves through their wave naturally and talking about feelings can come more easily. The undefined partner absorbs and amplifies the emotional field around them, feels everything intensely, but naming it in the moment doesn’t always come naturally.
I am this person. Ask me in the moment to name exactly what I am feeling and I will lose the thread immediately. For a long time I thought something was off with me.
What Human Design gave me was this: people with an undefined emotional center don't always find it easy to name their emotions in the moment. But this is not about bypassing emotions. Defined or undefined, the feelings still need to be felt. Human Design just shows you how you're each wired to move through them. For the undefined emotional center, the release often happens through the body rather than through language. Breathwork, movement, crying in the car. Whatever creates the outlet.
And for the person with a defined emotional center, the feelings need their own healthy release too. Because whether they know it or not, they are setting the emotional tone for everyone around them. Their wave moves through the house. Finding a conscious outlet for that is just as important.
When couples understand this, something shifts. The defined partner stops interpreting silence as avoidance. The undefined partner stops being so hard on themselves for not being able to articulate. They both stop making each other wrong for something that was never a flaw to begin with.
That is the relief. Not a solution. A reframe that actually sticks.
Ready to bring this into your relationship?
Without the language, you are always guessing. Why they went quiet. Why that comment landed wrong. Why the same moment keeps repeating. Human Design gives you something better than a guess. It gives you actual knowing.
When you see each other’s design, something shifts that no amount of conversation could create. You stop interpreting each other through your own lens. You start seeing each other as they actually are.
What I hear most after sessions is this: people feel more seen. Not by me. By their partner.
That is what I want for your relationship. Not perfection. Not the absence of friction. Just the language to see each other clearly. To stop making each other wrong for being exactly who you are.
Every session is completely tailored. We look at your individual designs, your connection chart, and what actually lives between you. The system is genuinely endless and most couples come back for a second session because something opened up and they want to go deeper. And if you have children, seeing their charts alongside yours becomes one of the most relieving things you will do as a parent.
